Living in Catalonia or the South of France has its perks: stunning beaches, rich culture, and easy access to world-class ski resorts. If you’re looking to hit the slopes, you don’t need to travel far. Here’s your guide to some of the best ski destinations in the region, featuring Andorra’s Grandvalira and Vallnord, Catalonia’s La Molina, and top-rated resorts in the French Pyrenees.
Grandvalira, Andorra
Why Ski Here:
Grandvalira is the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees and Southern Europe, boasting over 210 km of skiable terrain. Its modern infrastructure, diverse slopes, and snow reliability make it a top choice for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Highlights:
Slopes: Over 130 runs, including dedicated areas for beginners and challenging black runs for experts.
Activities: Snowparks, freeride zones, and family-friendly areas.
Dining: Enjoy everything from traditional Andorran cuisine to international options at on-mountain restaurants.

Accommodation:
Our preferred place to stay is El Tarter. For the budget conscious, consider staying in Andorra la Vela and driving to the ski station of your choice. For a splurge, check out Hotel Grou Roig. This ski in/out hotel is located in our favorite section of Granvalira.
Vallnord, Andorra
Why Ski Here:
Vallnord is split into two main areas: Pal-Arinsal, ideal for families and beginners, and Ordino-Arcalís, renowned for its off-piste terrain and freeriding. Vallnord offers excellent skiing but less of the tourist facilities that you'll find at Granvalira. You might think of it as the local's ski resort vs the tourist's resort.
Highlights:
Slopes: 63 km of groomed runs, with excellent ski schools and childcare facilities.
Freeriding: Ordino-Arcalís offers untouched powder and stunning backcountry routes.
Events: Regular competitions and festivals make this a lively choice.
Lift Ticket Rates:
Day pass: Approx. €44 for adults and €35 for children.
Discounts for multi-day passes and early bookings.
Accommodation:
Choose from charming mountain lodges in Arinsal or boutique hotels in La Massana, offering easy access to both ski areas.
La Molina, Catalonia
Why Ski Here:
La Molina is Catalonia’s oldest ski resort, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with options for both beginners and advanced skiers. This resort doesn't always get enough snow and the facilities are aging. If you are a beginner skier, or just want to take a day trip to the slopes, La Molina is a good option. It's not a place you would go for an extended ski trip.
Highlights:
Slopes: 68 km of pistes, featuring snowparks, a superpipe, and well-maintained beginner zones, plus a sledging area for kids.
Accessibility: Just a two-hour drive from Barcelona, with train and bus connections available.
Activities: Night skiing, snowshoeing, and tubing for non-skiers.
Lift Ticket Rates:
Day pass: Approx. €43 for adults, €33 for juniors, and €29 for children.
Discounts available for weekday and online bookings.
Accommodation:
Stay in ski resorts’ hotels or nearby towns like Alp, where you’ll find charming rural accommodations and easy access to the slopes.
